What to Expect at the Kowloon Walled City Exhibition
The Kowloon Walled City Exhibition offers an unprecedented opportunity to walk through meticulously recreated sets from the film, including:
- Cafe 7 Kee, Lung Shing Barbershop, Dentist’s Clinic, Corner Store, Bone-Setting Clinic, Tailor Shop, and Repair Workshop
- Fish Ball Factory and Plastic Workshop (with scent installations simulating the original factory smells)
- Wells and communal areas, reflecting authentic daily life
- Light & Shadow Rooftop: complete with a large projection screen and realistic airplane sound effects to recreate the iconic low-flying aircraft above the city
The exhibition also incorporates elements of traditional Hong Kong craftsmanship:
- A large hand-painted floral banner at the entrance, reminiscent of festive decorations
- An iron gate installation inspired by the security grilles of 1980s tenement buildings
- Recycled floor tiles salvaged from old structures, preserving a nostalgic aesthetic and promoting sustainability
