Kowloon Walled City Exhibition | Dates, Access & Highlights

June 11, 2025

The critically acclaimed film Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In – winner of Best Picture at the Hong Kong Film Awards – has brought the legendary Kowloon Walled City back to life through its breathtaking sets and compelling storytelling. As guests of The Regent Hong Kong, you’re perfectly positioned to experience this cinematic wonder firsthand at the Kowloon Walled City: A Cinematic Journey exhibition, located just minutes from our doorstep.

What to Expect at the Kowloon Walled City Exhibition
The Kowloon Walled City Exhibition offers an unprecedented opportunity to walk through meticulously recreated sets from the film, including:

  • Cafe 7 Kee, Lung Shing Barbershop, Dentist’s Clinic, Corner Store, Bone-Setting Clinic, Tailor Shop, and Repair Workshop
  • Fish Ball Factory and Plastic Workshop (with scent installations simulating the original factory smells)
  • Wells and communal areas, reflecting authentic daily life
  • Light & Shadow Rooftop: complete with a large projection screen and realistic airplane sound effects to recreate the iconic low-flying aircraft above the city

The exhibition also incorporates elements of traditional Hong Kong craftsmanship:

  • A large hand-painted floral banner at the entrance, reminiscent of festive decorations
  • An iron gate installation inspired by the security grilles of 1980s tenement buildings
  • Recycled floor tiles salvaged from old structures, preserving a nostalgic aesthetic and promoting sustainability

Visitors can experience the Walled City through multiple senses, with special installations recreating the distinctive sounds of daily life – from mahjong tiles clattering to the roar of overhead planes. The exhibition also showcases original costumes, props, and behind-the-scenes footage showing how filmmakers rebuilt this lost Hong Kong landmark.
